Do-Not-Email List
The do-not-email list holds the email addresses that get no marketing email from your organization: people who unsubscribed, and addresses that bounced. It is kept by email address, not by contact record, so it still applies when the same person is imported again or exists twice.
Open your Organization settings and choose the Do-not-email list tab. Owners and managers see the tab; other roles do not.
One list for the whole account
An address on the list is blocked for every team organization under the same parent account. An organization that is not part of a parent account has a list of its own. Whichever organization the address was added in, the block applies account-wide.
How an address gets on the list
Every entry records a reason and a source, shown in the Reason and Source columns:
| What happened | Reason | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The person clicks the unsubscribe link in a Broadcast, newsletter issue or sequence email | Unsubscribed | Unsubscribe link |
| The person uses their mail app's own Unsubscribe button | Unsubscribed | One-click unsubscribe |
| The person replies asking you to stop emailing them | Unsubscribed | Replied asking to stop |
| An email to the address hard-bounces | Bounced | Bounced |
| An owner or manager adds the address on this tab | Unsubscribed or Bounced, as chosen | Added by a user |
| Someone sets Do not email on a contact | Unsubscribed | Added by a user |
| A CSV import row has do_not_email set | Unsubscribed | Imported |
| The contact was already unsubscribed when the list was introduced | Unsubscribed | Existing opt-out, or the original source when Booked55 knew it |
Unsubscribing from a single sequence or a single newsletter does not add the address to the list. Those links mean “not this one”, not “no marketing email”.
What the list blocks
| Reason | Not sent | Still sent |
|---|---|---|
| Unsubscribed | Broadcasts, newsletter issues, sequence emails | Touchpoints, one-to-one emails |
| Bounced | Broadcasts, newsletter issues, sequence emails, Touchpoints | One-to-one emails |
A Touchpoint is a personal email with no unsubscribe footer, so it still goes to someone who unsubscribed from marketing email; the campaign page marks those recipients Unsubscribed. See Touchpoints and unsubscribed contacts.
When you email one contact from the app, an Unsubscribed or Bounced badge appears next to the recipient. The email still sends; the badge is there so you know. The AI assistant shows the same warning on its send confirmation. A send through an API key or a connected AI client to someone who unsubscribed is refused outright, since there is no one at a screen to see the warning.
Re-imported and duplicate contacts
When a contact is created with an address that is on the list as Unsubscribed — typed in, imported from a CSV file, sent by an integration, or submitted through a public profile — the new contact starts out unsubscribed. The same goes for a second contact with the same address assigned to another team member, and for a deleted contact that is created again. An unsubscribe cannot be undone by importing the list again.
An unsubscribe link still works after the contact it was sent to has been deleted. The address is added to the list and the person's choice is kept.
Removing an address
Removing an entry is the only way to re-subscribe someone from the CRM. Only an owner or manager can do it: click Remove on the row and confirm. Booked55 records who removed the entry and when. The person's contact records in your organization are marked subscribed again, unless another Unsubscribed entry for the address is still in force.
The person can also re-subscribe themselves: the unsubscribe link in any email they received opens a page where they can turn marketing email back on. That removes every Unsubscribed entry for their address.
Removing a Bounced entry does not clear the bounce recorded on the contact itself. To email that person again, correct the email address on the contact; a new address is not affected by the old one's bounce.
Working with the list
- Columns — Email, Reason, Source and Added (the date the entry was made).
- Search — type part of an email address.
- Reason filter — All, Unsubscribed or Bounced.
- Add addresses — paste one address per line, or separated by commas. Addresses written as
Jane Doe <[email protected]>are read too. Choose the reason, Unsubscribed or Bounced, and click Add. Up to 1,000 addresses at a time. The result reads N added, N skipped (already listed or not an address). - Remove — on each row, with a confirmation step.
Addresses are matched without regard to case: [email protected] and [email protected] are one entry.
